How to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Middle Tennessee is known for many things; however, brutally cold winters aren’t among them.

That doesn’t mean we don’t get our fair share of chilly and snowy weather, but Minnesota we are not.

Still, when it’s cold enough to turn the heat on, it’s also time to shore your home’s defences to keep the cold air hot, and the warm air in. We have three suggestions to help you do just that:

  1. Heating System Preventative Maintenance – The best way to fix a problem with your heating system is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Here at GBT Heating & Cooling, we perform multi-point system cleanings and inspections designed to keep your system running at peak performance, extend its lifespan, reduce your home heating costs, and provide you and your family with added safety. The earlier in the heating system you have this service performed, the less likely you are to experience any problems.

  2. Heating System Warning Signs – When there’s a problem with your heating system, it usually finds a way to let you know. So, if you should detect any unusual odors, hear strange signs, experience hot and cold spots indoors – just to name a few symptoms indicating a problem exists – contact us sooner than later to have the issue properly diagnosed and resolved.

  3. Whole-House Humidifier. One of the biggest complaints we hear from customers this time of year is how dry their homes can become. Dry air, in turn, can cause problems for allergy and asthma sufferers, create plenty of static electricity, dry up and potentially warp objects (including musical instruments) made of wood, and more.  But with a whole-house humidifier, you can maintain relative humidity levels exactly where you like them for greater comfort, reduced energy bills, and help with all the other symptoms from dry air.

No matter what the home heating or cooling need might be, GBT Heating & Cooling is on the job and ready to serve. Contact us today or anytime – we’re always glad to lend a helping hand.
