September is Self-Improvement Month

A wise man once wrote, “You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose!” His name was Theodore Geisel. You might know him better as Dr. Seuss.

As inspiring as this and other of his quotes might be, our wheels sometimes get stuck in the mud, only to find ourselves getting nowhere fast.  It’s times like these that call for a little self-improvement. And what better time to stir things up than during National Self-Improvement Month? Here are 5 things you can do this or any month that will help shape a happier, healthier you.

Take better care of your body. If you want to be healthier and feel better, look closely  at your eating and exercise habits. Add more vegetables to your diet, cut down on salt, participate in some form of physical activity – even if it’s just a walk during your lunch break. Over time, small changes can lead to big results.

Start doing something that stimulates you. Have you always wanted to learn to play the piano or try martial arts? There’s no time like the present. Do you miss the days of childhood organized sports? Start an office or neighborhood league. Whatever your interests may be, a hobby will help you recharge, connect with others, and provide an outlet for creativity and expression.

Take a trip. A trip not only gives you something to look forward to, travel allows you to discover and explore new places. It doesn’t have to be expensive, either. You may not be able to backpack through Europe, but you can day trip through your own state and check out landmarks, state parks, places to hike or new restaurants to try.

Share your time and talents. When you give the gift of your time, you’re not only helping others, you’re improving upon yourself. Volunteer to serve at a soup kitchen, read or play an instrument at a nursing home, or organize a coat drive for the homeless.

Adjust your goals. Have you been trying to achieve the same goal for the past 5 years with little progress? Perhaps it’s time to take a step back and adjust the goal or the strategies for how to get there. Break a larger goal into smaller, more doable steps. Think about the one thing you can do differently every day for the next week that can get you closer to achieving it. And don’t be afraid to seek guidance from someone who could offer a fresh perspective.

Here at GBT Heating & Cooling, we work hard to follow our own advice. Every day we strive to get better at providing for your family’s home comfort needs.  We also appreciate every opportunity you provide us.
