What’s Wrong with My AC System?
There are dozens of potential reasons why an AC system can either falter or fail. You’d need an HVAC license to learn and understand them all, and yet all you really want is smooth and dependable operation.
And yet AC systems are machines, and not the perpetual motion variety, which means sooner or later, repair issues will arise.
These are among the most common and, therefore, all good reasons to have your system professionally maintained at least once a year.
Frozen inside coil
A frozen coil often indicates a problem with airflow, such as restrictions caused by dirty air filters or a blocked return air duct. Frozen indoor coils also could be caused by low refrigerant levels. Depending on the severity of the problem, a frozen coil may necessitate a replacement indoor air handler if not your entire system.
Outside unit not functional
This typically indicates lack of power, contactor problems or even a faulty thermostat.
Outside fan is not working
The outside fan is responsible for transferring the heat from your home to the outside air. Once that fan stops working, your outdoor compressor can overheat and trip the safety overload. Worse yet, it may cause internal damage to the compressor.
Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air. Low refrigerant may indicate a leak or some other system problem. You can help prevent that (and most other system problems) by having your system regularly cleaned and inspected.
Improper, haphazard, or uncertified A/C wiring is dangerous and a potential fire hazard. Faulty wiring often prevents the system from getting power or can trip the circuit breaker.
To minimize these and other problems and help detect them before even bigger problems can arise, GBT Heating & Cooling recommends annual preventive maintenance. Our AC cleaning and inspection is so thorough you also can expect lower utility bills and longer equipment life. Contact us today to learn more or schedule service.
